DOYLE optométristes & opticiens has over thirty years of history among the leaders of optometry in Québec. From the vision health clinic to the designer frame boutique, DOYLE has been in the forefront of the many revolutions the optometry field has gone through over the past few decades.
Promising beginnings
After a few months working in the very strict framework of practice that governed optometry in those days, Luc Doyle made the decision to go into business for himself. In March 1978, he opened his very first optometry office in the Saint-Henri district. Respectful of tradition, he rented a small examination room on the second floor, but faithful to his convictions, he set up a second space on the ground floor. Its purpose? To display frames, even though this was contrary to practice at the time… The idea was to offer patients a complete visual solution. Thanks to the relationships established with various renowned importers and distributors, the basic selection, which originally was limited to 15 models stored in a discreet drawer, gave way to an inventory of just over 100 frames! It didn’t take much more for Luc Doyle’s very first clinic to stand out and dare the unthinkable: revolutionize the profession.
Expanding expertise
In the early 1980s, the leading frame manufacturers began to pay more attention to major trends. Eyeglasses, previously mere visual ortheses, gradually were transformed into trendy accessories. While different chains engaged in aggressive advertising campaigns based on price and quantity, DOYLE took the quality path. A superior quality product had to be presented professionally and attentively, and DOYLE thus positioned itself as a professional business specializing in the best possible visual solutions. In the 1990s, investments in diagnostic equipment, development of new premises and superior manufacturing products justified the mission of a company that had eight boutiques in the Greater Montreal region.
Doyle today
Over the past decade, the DOYLE Group has focused on in-store experience and the priority given to the customer/patient, and to offering quality products based on cutting-edge equipment. Despite strong pressure on prices, DOYLE seeks to particularize its approach and offer everyone a truly personalized solution. The Web boutique, launched in 2010, becomes the first online boutique completely administered by vision professionals. The online boutique is intended to complement the customer’s experience and offer a specialized information source.
